Throws Post Pair Of Record Marks

USAFA- The University of Colorado track and field program competed in the second day of the Air Force Invitational on Friday, the inaugural event of the 2021 season, led by Gya'ni Sami and Tyler Sconce in the weight throw.
 
Sami climbed all the way up to fourth all-time in the women's weight throw with a distance of 57-8.25. The mark was good for fifth in today's event and broke her previous record by over four feet. 
 
Sconce and Penner both competed in the men's weight throw where they finished fifth and seventh, respectively. Sconce, with a new personal record distance of 61-0.75, is now fourth in program history and Penner, who threw 57-7.0, just two feet shy of his personal best.
 
Ian Gilmore had two top-five finishes on the day in the men's 60 and 200 meters. Gilmore clocked in a time of 6.88 in the 60, which was good for fourth in the event, and a time of 21.74 in the 200 Meters which landed him in fifth. Garrett Nelson also cracked the top-ten in the 200 meters, finishing 10th with a time of 22.15. 
 
Nick Bianco was the lone Buff competitor in the heptathlon, finishing fourth with a score of 4,721 after a huge second day of competition. Bianco started the day 14th and moved up after a pair of fourth place finishes in the 60 hurdles (8.62), the pole vault (14-5.25) and finished third in the 1,000 (2:55.63).
 
Kellen Monestime finished ninth in the men's 60 meters hurdles with a time of 8.50. 
 
Jaida Drame finished seventh in the women's 400 Meters with a time of 58.14. Valerie Welch joined Badal in the event's top-ten in the women's 60 meters hurdles with a time of 8.92 which was good for ninth. 
 
The Buffs finish up competition tomorrow.
